Foreign students may temporarily stay in Lithuania after the graduation

At the meeting of Lithuanian Government the amendments to the „Law on the Legal Status of Aliens“ proposed by the Ministry of the Interior were approved. The amendments would expand the opportunities to receive temporary residence permit in Lithuania – foreigners who studied and graduated in the country, as well as the persons who carried out scientific studies would be able to stay in the country additional 9 months.

The amendments are designed to transpose the provisions of the EU Directive which aim to ensure favourable conditions of entrance and living for third country nationals who arrive to the host country with the purpose to study, to carry out scientific research, to participate in volunteering programmes, traineeship, etc.

It is proposed to apply the provisions since 23rd of May, 2018.
