FRONTEX: in June, the number of attempts to illegally cross the external EU border increased insignificantly

European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX) reports that after record lows in April, in June, just like in May, the number of attempts to illegally cross the external European Union border increased insignificantly.

Among total 4,500 of such cases, in June, most illegal attempts (in total – 2,500) were registered in the Western Balkan route, where, if compared to the same period last year, the number of cases grew by almost 3 times. Two out of three times the nationals trying to illegally cross the external EU border were of Syrian origin.
