FRONTEX: situation at the EU external border during the 1st half of 2020

European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX) reports that during the first half of 2020, total number of attempts to illegally cross the external European Union border decreased by almost a fifth. These figures are mainly identified with consequences of the COVID-19 virus outbreak.

When compared to the same period in 2019, the amount of such cases grew in Western Balkan (by 73 percent) and Central Mediterranean (by 86 percent) routes, and fell in Easters (by 86 percent) and Western (by 56 percent) Mediterranean routes.
