FRONTEX: irregular migration in the EU – at is lowest since 2013

European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX) reports that in 2020 the extent of registered irregular migration in the European Union was at its lowest since 2013. The number of attempts to illegally cross the external EU border fell by 13 percent last year. These trends are associated with the Covid-19 virus outbreak.

It is reported that in 2020 most often an attempt to illegally cross the external EU border was made by Syrian, Moroccan, Tunisian or Algerian nationals.

Among registered cases – fewer women (less than 1 in 10) and minors (in average, 1 in 10) if compared to previous year.
