European Asylum Support Office (EASO) informs that, compared to February, in March the number of asylum applications lodged in the European Union has increased (from 38 300 in February to 40 200 in March).
In March, most applications were lodged by Syrian, Afghan, Iraqi, Pakistani, and Nigerian nationals. It is noticeable that during the reported period, there were considerably more asylum applications lodged by asylum seekers from Western African countries and Morocco. In addition, there was a sharp increase in a total rate of first instance decisions.
